Southern Kings overthrow undefeated Alabama Jaguars
Sunday March 13th, the Tallahassee Southern Kings took on the undefeated Alabama Jaguars. The two teams spent most of the first quarter trading point for point keeping the score tight at 24-26. The energy in the arena was tense as the score was left tied 46-46 at the half. The game was an all out dog fight; but, forwards Zack Naylor and Chris Bryant came together to help lead the team to a five point stretch with 8:44 left in the fourth quarter. However it was Montre Edwards who Ice-Tre the game by knocking down two free throws with 35 seconds left in the quarter. The final bucket was scored by Marlon Hunter; sealing the Jaguars defeat with a score of 104-95. I had the opportunity to interview forward Chris Bryant and Point Guard Montre Edwards to get the full inside scoop of the game.
“How was the Jaguars style of play different from the last game against the Gulf Coast Lions?” - Smith
“I would say they played slower but they had a lot more shooters, there was a lot of driving and kicking. They wasn’t too strong on the inside but they have really strong guards like number twelve, number four and number nine. The way they were able to drive and penetrate and kick out to shooters; they made it a little bit difficult for us. We had to buckle down and just realize who were the scorers and who were not and then just make adjustments.” - Bryant
“What did coach Moten say to you guys during the half, and how did you guys execute the game plan for the second half?”
“He was basically saying the score is 0-0, and that we had a bad first half but if we played better during the second half then we would win this game.” - Edwards
“He also said to make adjustments on number nine. He was the one that was getting them going, driving and penetrating. We needed to be more in help and less attached to our man. So we made those adjustments and was able to lock in on defense to secure the win”.
- Bryant
“What’s next for the Tallahassee Southern Kings?”
We are playing a team out of Raleigh, North Carolina (Firebirds); a team that beat us the first time we played them on Friday March 25th. We play them here so that should be a big bounce back win for us. That would be big for us.”
